Default What is it about Río Rancho?

Just wondering why Rio Rancho receives such high marks on this forum.

For sure, it has affordable housing.

Aside from that, why would anyone want to live there? It has lots of dust storms, all kinds of chain stores, costly floods, and no downtown (yet).

I hope there are some folks out there who can soften my impression of this fast-growing city.

That's most of it. Also it is a relatively young city so people with children are attracted to it. I have heard its schools get reasonable marks on various arbitrary scales.

Most people don't give two cr*ps about those things. As long as there is a big enough parking lot at the box-stores.

I'm sure some Rio Rancho dwellers will chime in to correct me ;-)

As a hopefully soon to be resident, Rio Rancho is everything that I do not want. I haven't even looked at the prices because I'd rather live just about anywhere else.

You sure won't get any encouragement here. I've been around since before Rio Rancho had its first show home on display. I drove by some homes, backed up to the highway, today, raised high above the road on a hill. All having retainer walls along the backs of their properties. I couldn't help it, I laughed out loud, thinking about what will happen with the first real hard rain.

I like Rio Rancho. Granted we just moved here and we are renting. But its quiet where I am at and the neighbors are all friendly. What does RR have that people do not want? That is confusing to me.

All kinds of chain stores? Such as?? Target? Fashion Bug? K & Walmart? I believe Cottonwood Mall has all kinds of chain stores also. Stores aren't that important to me. There is more to my life than shopping.

I haven't seen any floods or dust storms? Or maybe I don't live in the right area.

Will we buy in RR? I don't know. It is hard to say right now. I certainly wouldn't cross it off MY list.

You crack me up!

I've shown a lot of houses in Rio Rancho, mostly to people relocating to the area.

The first words I almost always hear when driving through RR is "Oh", then "hmm" usually followed by a pause then "Its bigger than I thought it would be" then "why do all the houses look the same" then "Can we go look at homes in Albuquerque now?"

I think Rio Rancho lacks the southwestern charm that the longer established Albuquerque has, admittedly the upper west side has a slew of new homes but I usually tell people that if they are looking to live there then they might as well look at RR too.

People relocating have this picture of what the Southwest is supposed to look like in their minds, unfortunately Rio Rancho rarely fits that description.

Maybe it's the history of land fraud.
