I remember that well too - very well. And honestly, back then, as a proud ABQ resident, I kind of almost took that stuff wholeheartedly for granted (the *positive* aspects of living in the warm / dry).
Took it for granted, I did.
Yes folks, the lesson as always: I am an idiot.
For the region in general, surely the moisture and precip when possible is always good. However, many folks live in ABQ (or the Southwest in general) to reap the quality of life benefits that go along - hand-in-hand - with the dry, sunny weather.

Awesome man, awesome. I will be the first to contribute. Let'ssee what I have got here...hmmm, $0.50, some used coffee grounds, and a half-ripped postage stamp. Oh, and a cr**load of snow.
(OK, now would be the appropriate time for some super-wealthy benefactor that has been a three-year lurker of the CD Forums and has "developed a soft spot for that ol' SOB EnjoyEP" to step in, throw a $20K spot on the table, and get EP and fam back to the Duke City!! ).
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some *SHOVELING* to do!!

I will speak for zia (until he can chime in) and confirm that yes indeed, this was a pre-emptive, cruel...very cruel...very, very cruel...shot.
What a mean fellow.
I did have the good fortune of meeting personally mr. ziaAirmac when I was in ABQ a few weeks ago and can attest that in general, he's a great guy; however, this cruel thread is a testament to his harsh side!

Of course, Rankin will have to speak for himself here, however, let's set the minimum donation standard at $10K. I get two donors then at minimum, and the EnjoyEP family is golden! Included is a multiple-cerveza round on EP at the Horse N' Angel.
(Just don't make the check directly to Rankin...next thing you know, I will *still* be shoveling up here years from now and you'll see TR in his silver-plated North Albuquerque Acres mansion gloating about the "ultimate scheme"!!! )...

Wait, that's EnjoyEP's forecast. Nevermind.

ALRIGHT, now that was just about as wicked or cruel as zia's original post.
Hey, we have a "heat wave" of sorts - 42 degrees tomorrow!!! Woooooo freaking hooooo!!! Rolling in an outdoor hammock until the high of 20 sets in on Friday.
Argh, I will now dig my thyroid out from my neck with a butter knife...

You called it, yukon. I cannot tell a lie As EnjoyEP points out, we had the chance to catch up while he was out, and when this weather hit, he was the first one I thought of. He's a great guy, and it's meant as a friendly ribbing. Harsh and cruel? Sure! But what are friends for? EEP, I'll make it up to you. Next time you're out, first round's on me

EP...you just need to bite the bullit, sell the house in WI and move back. Tell your family you will buy airline tickets 4 times a year to visit them. (Those tickets couldn't cost more than WI taxes!)

Good idea Yukon, about PayPal. And just to allay EP's concerns about possible misuse of the money, pls send those $10K contributions directly to the moving fund, instead of to me. Here is the web site:
www.paypal.con/northalbuqerqueacres/rankin
I will make sure the money is spent...efficiently.

I like a 70 degree day as much as the next guy, but all of you people positively glowing about it must realize that weather like this in February translates to the whole state becoming an inferno in about a month.
That means property loss, terrible air quality from all the smoke, habitat loss, money lost for people who make their living in tourism/hunting/fishing, etc.
Those areas that don't burn will lose millions of trees to bark-beetle infestations. This, in turn, leads to even more fire danger as our mountains become piles of dry, dead wood.
This is not even to mention that the outdoor areas we so cherish and promote here in New Mexico will be off-limits to even the most casual use with picnic areas and hiking trails closed to all users.
Basically, this weather is a slow-motion natural disaster. Less obviously destructive than a hurricane, flooding, or tornado, and unlike those disasters, the region will not repair itself in a time-frame measured in months but rather decades or even centuries.
Getting excited about this weather at this time of year is like being happy for having a 102 degree fever on a cold day.

I was enjoying the relative warmth yesterday afternoon til the wind picked up and I looked to the west to see a huge cloud of dirt rolling towards my open, west-facing windows.
It is soooooo dry out here. I want to go to the picnic areas in the Cibola Natl Forest soon but I worry that ABQconvict is correct and they will be closed, like they were for a while last summer.
Hey, mother nature, can we get a few days of rain or snow before we get the warm winds of spring again?

AMEN. I could not have said it better myself.
I am really dreading this coming summer...and I am really wondering if I should just not go ahead and pack up and move out of here in May for a colder climate, instead of waiting for the housing market to pick back up in a couple of years or so....
It really is likely to be a horrible summer, and it's not going to be much fun. Try downright dangerous.
I hate this weather. I am told that it's not normal, but this is my second winter in Alamo, and it's not much different from the last, other than being a little warmer a little earlier. I came from West Texas, and the only consolation is that Midland yesterday reached nearly 90, so they are worse off than we are here in NM. Had the winter I tracked not been colder than normal (when Ruidoso/Cloudcroft had great snow and good ski seasons) here, I probably would not be here....as much as I love the place other than the heat.

ABQConvict predicted:

There is no guarantee of that this year or any other.
This is a random fluctuation about the average high of 57 this time of year.
Cathy4017 added fuel to the fire:
> It really is likely to be a horrible summer, and it's not going to be much fun.
Scaremongers.
