This is very sad - and it's frightening.

What troubles me after watching the news is how the media never seems to stray from their "dirty laundry" way of reporting. The young woman identified was, first and foremost, a young woman. That - or even if she did wander into a painful and undesirable way of life does not justify murder ...which is exactly what the media portrays.

My heart reaches to the families who lost loved ones.

Yeah, and there's another "thread on this" in the New Mexico forum.
It beat this one out by a day.

The count is now 11, looks like Albuquerque has a serial killer at large.

I recently saw part of a documentary on MSNBC about older teen girls getting duped by a "friend" or kidnapped outright and forced into sex slavery. Because of their age, they get presumed to be runaways by the authorities. One girl was sought out and found by her family after 3-4 days - mom had gotten a static-y phone call saying "help, mommy" early on in the weekend the daughter was supposed to be spending with her girlfriend. The family searched and finally found her in a parking lot in a car with a guy who was transporting her somewhere. The young girl had been drugged, and kept drugged at near lethal levels with a combination of drugs. She had sustained a huge amount of physical abuse as well, while the captors used her as an unwilling prostitute in a room in a suburban home. Makes you shudder to think what they would have done with her when she either died or was so abused that they were done with her.

Makes you wonder how prevalent this is, and how many bodies out there (west mesa or wherever) have yet to be found.

It's a fairly common way for organized crime to make money. McMafia by Misha Glenny touches on the subject in the course of charting the rise of the Russian Mob after the fall of the USSR. Excellent book. If you'd like to know more, I highly recommend it.
