The same can be said about children, if one follows your line of *logic*. Mom and Dad love little Junior, he has all the support and nuturing and teaching one could ever want. Junior grows up to be an axe murderer, MUST be his parent's fault! Couldn't be a breakdown in the brain somewhere, MUST be his family. Nuture over nature, huh?

Every one of my dogs were rescues and five of six cats were. I've done horse rescue for several years. So i've been exposed to abused animals of every size- tiny kittens to 1200 lb horses. Some recover from the abuse, some don't, some just weren't right from the start. Some can be helped, some can't. To lump all of one being into the *gooder than good* genre before we evil humans got hold of them is ridiculous.

Oh! PLEASE, Read what you typed. It makes no sense at all. It is never the dogs fault unless it is inbred with inherent personality disorders. It is always the irresponsible owners fault. Or someone provoking the dog or scaring it. Years ago I went up to a sheepdog and got on my knees to pet the dog and I got pretty close in its face. It almost took my face off. Was it the dogs fault if I got bit? No, it would have been mine! I guess I spooked that dog. Dogs bite for a reason!
I always say with dog bites, what did the person or whoever do to that dog?
Or, just another irresponsible owner! Reread your post it makes no sense!

I refuse to beat a dead horse. Or continue arguing with someone whom inherent sarcasm is lost on. Not all dogs are good until corrupted by people, not all people are good until corrupted by an outside force.

I have to completely back Alison on this comment. We all know the closest ancestor to the dog, no? Dogs are simply a domesticated version of larger more vicious and wild dogs.
Also, as someone else stated, all living beings might fight to survive a fearful situation. Although a pet parent CAN decrease the instances of the dogs outlash by keeping the dog at home etc... the pet parent does not MAKE a dog lash out.
Finally... I too wear a scar from a dog bite..and it was my fault as well.

I think some of you are slightly getting off base here, the reason some have said it is the owners fault, of as I see it anyway, the dog, especially certain breeds should have been on a leash..Of course not all owners are responsible for a dog that leashes out to protect themselves or fight for survival. We are slightly getting off track here.

The op simply asked what to do about the second Pitt and now we are discussing who is at fault for every animals behavior??? Yes, the pet forum is probably where this belongs..
