Very funny.
OP, it depends on what area of the city/suburbs you would want to live in. There are areas in the city full of crime and areas that have a small to moderate amount. The suburbs are less likely to have crime. The schools vary depending on the area. Maybe if you could give a better idea of what you are looking for or what area you are looking at, it would be easier to help.
Teaching jobs in Pittsburgh are tough to come by, from my understanding. That is because it's a "who you know or are related to" rather than best qualified sort of thing. The city itself may be different, I'm not sure. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try but it could be difficult. I know the teaching jobs here pay a lot more than other states because they are unionized. Some of my kids' teachers make between 50 and 90,000. The ones making more have been there a long time, but to me that is a lot of money even for a long time teacher.

Depending on how long you've taught, teachers in abq start off at 30,000 right out of college (which is not good at all imo). You must complete a dossier and have x years of experience to get to Tier II (40,000) and then do a lot more work to get to Tier III (50,000).

Teaching Jobs
Hi,
I lived in Pgh for about 14 years, and you will find Abq very different. I am a semi retired business mechanic (now an author) and had a client here that was involved with APS, the public school system here. I have had the experience of dealing with that schools superintendents, The procurement dept., the legal dept., etc.. My advice to you is get together a good resume and apply to private schools and charter schools in the Abq area. You'll be much happier.

Marianne: My opinion is it would be easier to find a teaching job in Albuq than in Pgh, although that's based only on what I've heard via word of mouth. Crime in ABQ is not really worse than Pgh, unless you come from one of the really pampered areas of the South Hills or North Hills.
Just keep in mind Albuq is very, very different than Pgh. Very different. The one big, overlooked similarity is that both cities have a very blue-collar feel, but with a sizeable and established professional/white-collar presence. IMO, this is one of the things that make both cities a special place.
You will mostly likely run into a lot of Steeler fans in Albuq - after the Broncos and the Cowboys, they are probably the 3rd most represented team. I used to see tons of Steeler bumper stickers, jackets, license plate covers, etc., when I lived there.
Also, most Albuquerqueans don't know that their affectionate term for their city, the 'burque, derives directly from one of Pittsburgh's nicknames for their city, the 'burgh [well, maybe it does....].
