If you map Phoenix and Albuquerque at the same scale and rotate one,
the South part of Albuquerque is as far away from Santa Fe as
Surprise is from the edge of Gilbert. Queen Creek is even farther.
There are some unincorporated suburbs farther than that.

Casa Grande is about as far from Cave Creek as Socorro is from Albuquerque.

Your #5 applies to Santa Fe and Socorro, IMO.

Still, I really like being able to say (for now) that there
is no commute in Albuquerque that is an hour long.

If you are not willing to adjust your commute time-of-departure, then yes, an hour.

If you are not willing to adjust your commute time-of-departure you have a "psychological disorder."

I agree, there is no way that SF and Socorro are "suburbs" of Albuq. Santa Fe is...Santa Fe. Socorro has been there a long, long time, well before ABQ was anywhere near as big as it is, and is a good distance from ABQ.

Now Los Lunas may well be considered by some to be a suburb, although personally, I might place it in the "exurb" community. I would say Belen and Bernalillo resemble "satellite cities." [for now, before the ABQ-SFE metroplex gobbles them up].

I'd be hard-pressed to find a commute from, say, the Big-I to Cedar Crest that took an hour.

Maybe if you worked at Intel, and took Paseo all of the way to Tramway, then down Tramway to I-40, then up N14, that could take an hour.

It is safe to say that middle class people can live in Cedar Crest and work in Albuquerque and have shopping, entertainment, etc...nearby, so as not to get heavily burden by gas prices?

How do you define middle class? This is a question that I've asked a lot of people in ABQ, and most people define themselves as middle class but income levels seem to be vastly different. Is middle class just income?
