Looking for recommendations on commuting from Corrales....
Specifically, my wife works at the VA on Gibson just east of where San Mateo intersects. We're house shopping to find room for an additional doodlebug. (Doodlebugs require a lot of space.). She's talking So. Valley. I'm talking No. She has the commute, so I'm looking for best ways to do it (sell it). Anyone have thoughts on this? My best idea was taking Alameda to 4th or 2nd and running down to Paseo Del Norte to jump onto I-25.

I have no idea about the commute.
Why not right next door to the VA in Siesta Hills? There are a few houses going for sub-$300k.

We keep looking at stuff like that, but every time we're in the Bosque, we talk about how much we want to live there. We're trying to stay true to that.

Bosque living can be had far south of Corrales. You may find just what you're looking for up and down Rio Grande Blvd., and points south as far as Isleta. Look between the RR tracks and the river in the area near Gibson then fan out; what you seek may be much closer to home.
I can't imagine life in Corrales being all that desirable if your trade-off is an hour commute each way, surrounded by frustrated drivers and the occasional driver-worth-shooting.

I totally understand. Our goal is to move closer to the river too. Corrales would be awesome!
Where are you all living now? Heights?
Good luck with your decision making.

I am not sure what the fastest way would be but it does not sound like a pretty commute at all.
I'd have to say if your wife is looking to get off I25 at Gibson, coming in from the south seems faster. Not that that helps your side of the argument, so you can just ignore that observation!

Depending on a LOT of circumstances, you might want to try going down
Coors / Coors Bypass straight to Paseo del Norte to 25 rather than down
Almeda and then to 4th / second.
But whatever path you take, you're in for a frustrating commute.

We live in Rio Rancho and my wife works at Kirtland AFB. She commutes through Corrales, goes East on Alameda, South on Jefferson, East on Paseo Del Norte, South on Wyoming. That commute is out of your way if going to the VA. But her trip takes her a little less than 55 minutes, but she leaves very early, in the 5 AM period. (She drives deep into Kirtland)
I use to go to the Air Force hospital (Attached to the VA) a lot. Alameda to 2nd Street, South to Osuna which turns into San Mateo to Gibson.
My way is a few miles shorter, less stressfull etc. Sometimes faster depending in traffic and what time you leave. But I would alternate on occassion just for the change of pace...

I think I would avoid San Mateo, lately it's been a real dog for commuting.
As far as your wife's 55min commute, wow, that's nuts.

I'd second San Mateo. Aren't parts of it being ripped up right now?
When my husband told me guys he works with that live in RR have the same commute time as him, I told him he must be wrong. I discovered it was 100% true.
