We have two homes occupied by a total of three police officers and I do believe their cruisers are a deterrent to at least some crime. Also, our neighborhood has its share of retirees, stay at homes and people who work from their home, like me. We also have some swing shift workers which means there is usually someone awake and aware of what's going on on our block pretty much 24/7.
Five years away from a city is long enough that quite a few things can change. Random things you cited can happen anywhere. What makes an area safe is a low chance of those things happening in the first case, or happening again.

That's good to hear, especially about the police force changing.

It appears the crime is so bad they can't control it. Is there a lot of riff-raff there ? Is the crime concentrated in one area ? Can you
live there safely ? On the surface it seems like a really nice place.
I've read through some other threads but maybe I'm missing these
points. I really want to like ABQ.

I've lived in ABQ, and yes, there are some seedy areas with prostitutes and shady dealings. That's everywhere. I never felt afraid in my time in ABQ, and it really is a pretty cool city with lots of friendly people. I lived there safely, in the NE side, for about a year. Nothing ever happened to me. I honestly wouldn't worry. I actually think it's great.

Well.......there's a real nugget of wisdom.
Some folks might agree with the Karmathecat. While I occasionally leave my door unlocked while running to the store, I recognize its not the smartest thing to do.

It depends, where you live.
Obviously I wouldnt recomend doing that in the ghetto.
Anways, the smart ass comment "Karmathecat" made wasnt really necessary.
But I guess Its a stupid one. So I'm making my point too.

"It depends, where you live."
No, it really does not. An unlocked door is an open invitation to anyone to come in. So whether you live in the ghetto or in a middle class community or in a mansion on the Bosque, it's smart to lock your doors, secure your valuables and if you have anything of great worth in the house make sure you are adequately secured with an alarm system and you have good insurance.

I dont know where you came from.. Well it says you came from California, but people dont tend to break into houses like in California, you make it seem pretty dramatic. I know the cost and all that. I have lived here for ten years and lived in New Mexico all my life, never has anyone touched the houses I have lived in. I have lived in Florida and I have a house in Las Vegas.. same goes for those.
Albuquerque is a whole different city. Sorry you make it seem like we live in Detroit, Obviously NOT. Welcome to the Duke City.

Even an ABQ Fanboy like me knows that that isn't true.
The only vehicle I leave unklocked is my Wrangler (soft tops are expensive, stereos aren't)... everything else (cars, home, bicycle) locked-up like f'n Fort Knox!
