It poured rain about an hour ago in the east side of Rio Rancho, and no rain on the west, Unser & Southern Blvd area...

How rare are downpours and cloudy days in ABQ? I read you all usually get less that 10 inches of rain per year?! Wow, I am used to many times that here in FL! Bet you love to see it when it does happen (well, except the flooding part)

After spending 5 days in the rain on Hawaii, along with 80%+ humidity when it wasn't raining, I am glad to be back in the desert and appreciating it even more than before we left.

The monsoon season in Albuquerque is usually July 7th, it was a few days early this year. But we get maybe three downpours per year. Just guessing. It is not the same pattern each year. And it can vary a lot from area to area. My daughter lives 6 miles west of us and we got about two inches of rain yesterday and she got none...

Rainfall patterns seem to vary by decade or so*. Some decades get more than others. We are at the tail end of one of the driest. This summer's almanac is calling for a drier than average summer, but so far we are looking better than the last two or three years at least.

*a variable that, at a rough estimate spans nearly 10 inches, with 5" in a very dry year to 12"+ in a very wet year. Of course, your location in Albuquerque can add or subtract a couple inches on that scale.

Managed to finish up a S. Foothills ride when I got hit with a late summer monsoon.

Love it!

There hasn't been one heavy downpour at our house all summer. I see the clouds and showers all around us, see the lightning, hear the thunder, but then it doesn't rain or it rains for a couple of minutes very lightly to get the cars dirty. Typically there is a break in the clouds right over our neighborhood. Last night we actually had a slow drizzle for about 15 minutes which was nice. Calling July and early August our "monsoon" season is becoming a joke. The 10 year drought is now being called the 15 year drought by the media. Will it ever end?

Lobo, here's the latest drought monitor: US Drought Monitor

New Mexico is still largely in a drought, but it's become worse in many other areas of the country. Precipitation in NM has always been spotty though. Your neighborhood may be missing out unfortunately, but apparently ABQ by and large is having a fairly "normal" year.
