I just want to win the home so I'd have a foot in the door to New Mexico. My wife and I have fallen in love with the area.

E. Mountains winter doesn't matter as much as the 4,000 sq ft.
Natural gas bills in the winter are likely to be $400-500 in January,
but at 6400 ft, you could probably just do without air conditioning.
For those very hot days where it reaches a sweltering 85 degrees,
a swamp cooler and fans would do nicely.
I noticed that when people discuss housing developments in Rio Rancho,
the term " sprawl" always comes up. Yet, looking at google street
view in that area, I can see the housing density is probably 1/10th
or less the level in the West areas of Albuquerque.
I just find that ironic.

Let me help you with that.
That's also sprawl...

The dream home has that nifty radiant floor heating - there's a video on the site that shows how it was laid out (7 heating zones, I think they said). That should help with the gas heating bill.

I hope to win it so I could sell it and buy some property elsewhere in New Mexico. That location looks to be as isolated as living on an outback farm (long way to gasoline and food) but with HOA dues. I would prefer a much smaller house in Socorro, San Antonio or Magdalena.

AS IF, I would win, LOL.... Just went on Moderator cut: Please, no links to real estate sites. and looked at other houses in Sandia Park area in the 1.4 mil dollar range were much nicer than the dream house. I don't think it would sell for anywhere near the price it is valued at in this ecomony. But do not know the area, it is a tourist area, maybe it could. Those floor to ceiling windows and the view.... I would just pull up a chair by the windows. It is not too difficult to knock down walls, as long as they are not weight bearing and then you could leave a pillar. I agree, they chopped up the space incorrectly, bedrooms, even the master, are very small. I would combine a lot of the little rooms....

I would list if for a $1-1.2 million and rely on it's celebrity status to draw in buyers.

Houses in ABQ metro area for this price are NOT selling; many off by 30-45% from original highs (2008) and still not selling. Only thing selling reasonably in ABQ area area right now is 120's-350's. This house is far removed from any conveniences (beautiful- yes, quick city access - no). It is not a home that most working folks in this region would buy (not southwestern in style, not convenient, not affordable, and the school area sucks). Other than that, its beautiful architecture in a gorgeous location. However for the money, you can find something just as beautiful, just as large, more convenient and certainly more affordable within about 5 minutes of ABQ or about 10 minutes of Santa Fe. All that said I would take it if I won it.
