Default Is Nob Hill a good place to live??

Ive been reading through this message board and I've heard a lot about nob hill. Most of the posting regarding Nob Hill are positive, but I've read some bad ones. SO whats the deal, is this a good place for a someone in their mid twenties trying to meet people(cool bars, lounges, restaurants), while at the same time relatively safe ( keep in mind im from socal so the word safe means not too many homicides)??? Other questions i have would be where exactly is nob hill ?? And how far is nob hill from UNM?

Nob Hill borders the Eastern edge of the UNM campus and extends 3 or 4 miles east. It is an excellent location with so much to do in a five mile radius. I would say Nob Hill is one of the safest neighborhoods in town and with all the new development there it's getting better by the day. You'll probably have to rent or buy an older fixer upper to live in. But that shouldn't be hard. The great thing is your are probably 3 miles from Downtown, 4 or 5 from Uptown, and close to all the sporting venues / entertainment districts in town.

The magic street is Girard. West of Girard, you get into some high crime area student slums. East of Girard is where Nob Hill begins and some high dollar houses can be found.

Central, Nob Hill's main drag, is constantly busy, particularly at lunchtime. Additional construction in the area doesn't help much. So if you like quiet, wide open spaces, Nob Hill isn't for you. But it is extremely trendy, great little shops, and a great melting pot of people.
