Default The Albuquerque 2009 Great Race Down the Rio Grande, Saturday June 6, 2009.

The Albuquerque 2009 Great Race Down the Rio Grande was held on Saturday June 6, 2009. The race was dedicated to 13 year Corbin Hayes of Rio Rancho who was swept away in the river on May 28. After a prayer a wreath was laid in the water in memoriam at Tingley Beach, The city Park Management Department's craft was dedicated to Corbin. Adorned with paper flowers, evergreen holiday garland in Corbin's school colors. The vessel bore the number "10", the number Corbin wore while playing baseball. More than 500 watercraft were registered for the race. Canoes and kayaks were launched from the Alameda Boulevard bridge area and rafts and crafts launched from Tingley Beach. The event ended at Valley High Road SW at the South Diversion Channel.
