Far NE Heights: Why no stores, restaurtants, etc.
I have been looking in this area, but the lack of commercial amenities is downright spooky. Anyone know if there are plans to add more stores?

You probably drove through residential areas. Drive up & down Montgomery, Paseo del Norte, Juan Tabo, etc. Lots of stores. Many of the newest, big box stores will be off Paseo, but they are elsewhere too. Elsewhere, the city has a great variety of older, etablished restaurants & stores that are unique, vs. the re-treaded forms of Generica that are typically found in many other cities.

exactly, Paseo Del Norte is filled with new, or newer strip shopping centers. Of course they have Kohls, Trader Joes, several nice grocery stores, Target right after you get off 25, etc. The same is true about Mongomery St, I can't think of an area in ABQ that has better shopping for those who like trendy shops. I don't mean expensive upscale, just nice choices.

Lots of retail fails in the 'upper' reaches of Tramway because generally
the traffic is just going into and out of the neighborhoods.
Far NE is like a cul-de-sac.
You don't have traffict using that area to get to somewhere else.
It's not "on the way" for most people.

He might just be one of those famous TROLLS we see from time to time. Either that or he sees the negative side of life.

I agree about there being a slim selection of stores. But I really like it. Less traffic in the area. No big parking lots around every corner.

Exactly. Lumping the the major retail on the main arteries which surround
much of Far NE leaving the core strictly residential doesn't seem like a bad
thing at all. For those who want a more walkable shopping / eating life style,
there's Nob Hill, San Mateo, etc.
However, speaking as a retiree, at some point the lessening ability to drive
everywhere will become a problem that may force us to sell our Westside house
and seek an area with "denser" facilities.

No retail?! I can't imagine a place in Albuquerque save the South Valley that's more than two city blocks from a strip mall. They've added over 40 new retail locations along the Paseo Del Norte corridor in just the past couple of years. There's another big retail complex going in east of the Lowe's-Office Depot-Super Target location at Louisiana and Paseo del Norte. I agree with others that suggested the OP might have been busy looking at houses in subdivisions. OP: if you find yourself in the area again, try the following intersections to soothe your retail soul:
Academy and Wyoming (China-Mart, Smith's, Whole Foods, Now We're Cooking, Chico, Barnes & Noble, among others)
Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte (Smith's, Big 5, Office Max, Cold Stone Creamery, Starbucks, Flying Star Cafe, 6 flags over cellular phones place, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of ABQ,)
Paseo Del Norte Corridor (Trader Joe's, Kohl's, Tribal Arts (nice rugs), Albertson's, SUPER Target, Walgreen's, multiple Starbuck's, Gun range with small shop, Lowe's (hardware))
Juan Tabo and Eubank has a large multilevel strip mall conveniently located next to the Horse and Angel pub.
