I think we'll have to agree to disagree ( I hate that saying, FWIW )
I went to a small ( 75 in my class ) prestigious, private high school. At the time I hated it. I hated the uniforms, the restrictions like a closed campus, the pressure to excel, to be the best. I hated the huge amount of homework, the super rich kids who got things like Porsche's for their 16th birthdays while I was driving a crappy old ( but kind of cool ) VW. I was not a particularly motivated student, just smart but lazy.
I realized once I went to college ( local state university ) how lucky I was. My education prepared me so well that I was able to CLEP out of almost all of my freshman classes which helped me breeze through the rest.
If a student is able to be self motivated or get that motivation somewhere in the course of attending a huge public school with a 60% graduation rate ( and I have no idea what La Cueva's actually is ) then that's great for them. For the student who is not motivated, they can easily miss opportunities by not being pushed to excel.
I'm glad to hear Pius is under 13k. Sorry that Academy is higher but I'll drive an older car, go without some luxuries, just to get my kid into the best school we can.

I posted that before I saw the 77%. That's great. I have some degree of faith in Superintendent Brooks, but I am not sure how he's going to motivate families to take more interest in their child's education. It starts so early.

I know I wouldnt mind paying 13k for my son, To me it means not much becuase an education in today's society is manditory! I mean even if I didnt have the money. I would make sure he did. Well its also a family school. Sports to me is the second thing. I have always loved sports, I was in so many sports sometimes I couldnt even keep up.. but I had fun.. It made me wanna learn and get good grades. And for some people thats the only reason they go to school Now a days.
NOTE:
Academy has a rep for rich, rich kids.. Everytime I took my cousin to school he made me take him in my Range Rover other wise kids would laugh.

A 4.2? That's incredible! How do you score higher than a 4.0? Must have been a really good school.

Just turned 8, He is supposed to be attending Sierra Vista Elementary, but He is going to Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary its a better school plus he already made a load of friends so I dont mind the commute since its near 1-40 on my way to work (Downtown).

The AP (Advanced Placement) System raises the GPA by .20 for each class I think... I took like 5 of them..
And I still didnt make the top 10 The highest GPA is a 4.5 or 4.555

Searching around on internet, it seems difficult to find up-to-date statistics. However, in the most recent numbers I could find, in July 2007, the ABQ Journal stated 52.6% of APS students graduated within 4 years. Their ranking (public schools only) at that time (for the 2005 year)
La Cueva 69.5%
Eldorado 65.6%
Sandia 64.4%
Cibola 57.4%
Manzano 55.7%
Del Norte 49.5%
Valley 48.8%
Highland 46.4%
Rio Grande 43.1%
Albuquerque 42.6%
West Mesa 40.2%
If anyone knows of a more recent publication, it would be good to see that.
And I guess everyone has seen the recent article:
