It's summer and I'm craving shaved ice!! Anyone know whether there are shaved ice venders in Albuquerque (preferrably NE side of town)? I know there is one in Rio Rancho at Unser and Southern, but that is too far.

Is that one still there? The only shaved ice I've seen are from the Schwan's guy and the ice cream truck that wonders the neighborhood.

The RR one is there. SE corner. I also drove by one really recently that said it was opening soon...it was about the size of a porta-john, but I cannot remember where it was....

Ahh.. raspado..

In Panama there were raspado vendors almost everywhere but they all
wanted to ruin it by adding a layer of condensed milk on top. They couldn't
believe that we just wanted the shaved ice and flavoring.

I moved here from the East Coast, PA/NJ area and used to love Rita's water ice.

I've found the next best thing!!!

Pop-Pops on Montgomery, just east of Eubank. It is on the south side of the street, right next to Sonic, in a strip mall which has a BBQ place on the corner.

His Lemon Gelati's are the REAL thing. He is from South Philly as you can tell from his decorations. He even has pretzels which aren't stale.

A shaved ice hut spotted on Hwy 528 in the South end of Rio Rancho. South East corner of the intersection. There is also a Jiffy Lube there....
