Default best steakhouse

Please list your favorite ABQ steakhouse. Chains like Outback etc are good, but I'm looking for the next level up... Thanks!

karmathecat has a spectacular aura aboutkarmathecat has a spectacular aura aboutkarmathecat has a spectacular aura aboutkarmathecat has a spectacular aura about
1. Vernon's
2. Gruet Steakhouse
3. Paul's Monterrey Inn
4. Monte Carlo

In no particular order ( although looking at it, priced high to low )

Heard good things about Marcello's but have not eaten there yet.

Great American was good, until he started using lower quality meat. Now it's closed.
Texas Land and Cattle and Lone Star are good, but are chains like Outback. National chains but good quality steaks unlike Outback.

Texas Land and Cattle is the only one i've found here. Nothing like as good as Longhorn (Taste of the West my foot- the closest one to us is OK. City!) but still pretty good. If you sign up at their website, they send coupons. I rank them a notch above nasty ol' Outback-they're infamous for coating inferior cuts of meat with their seasoning to cover up the fact it's cheap meat. Not to mention the asnine Australian theme- way too hokey for me.

We went to the Monte Carlo a couple months ago with a friend and I'd never go
there again. It's 50s-60s funky with thin, greasy steaks and pretty useless sides.

A couple hours after eating there, I wasn't feeling too good and the next day we
found out that our friend had spent the entire night worshipping the Porcelain God.

No, I sure wouldn't have that dump on my list..

Texas Land and Cattle was pretty good, but not a true top-end steak house.
We haven't tried the others that have been mentioned.

for us, I would say, 1-Cooperage and 2-Isleta casino restaurant upstairs. I can't think of the name but it begins with T. Texas Land and Cattle is good, but still a chain like Outback (which by the way we do like) but it isn't upscale like you seem to be looking for.

Forgot to mention... Ruth Chris' came to Knoxville not long before we moved. I believe they're rather upscale, even though they are a chain. I also recall reading about top steakhouses in Southwest Airline's magazine when I flew back to TN a few weeks ago.

yes, Ruths Chris' is very upscale but we have eaten there twice: I think they are grossly over rated.

Ruth Chris is a joke. The steaks are good but everything is priced a la carte and the steaks are not good enough for the ridiculously high prices.
