Hey New Mexico, I still love you and would look forward to every chance to drive through your state, especially through Abuquerque. I will even stop off at Little Anita's for some Huevos Rancheros w/ Red Chile and then head over to Blake's for a couple of green chile burgers for the road. Heck, I'll make a day of it and ride up the Sandia Tram. And on the way out, I'll make sure to stop off at the Rt 66 Casino.
I can't imagine anyone would hate New Mexico for anything.

OMG!!!
Wait until the OP gets to Illinois (driving on their way to Indiana) - s/he will be pulling every hair right off their head in frustration - if they're driving through the Chicagoland area.

Mike,
I live in PA and I seem to think I 80 is the most boring road in PA. Haha, I guess it just depends what you are used to. Since I'm from PA I probably find that kind of terrain mundane and boring since I'm used to it, and if you live in the southwest (which I assume you do?) then you are probably used to that terrain and find it less scenic than someone like me because you see it all the time.
I am a huge fan of the great plains too actually. I 40 has a nice stretch through the great plains from Oklahoma City all the way through the Texas panhandle and to the border of NM. Although most would find that stretch extremely boring, I find it very nice to see the terrain change from green plains in OK to slightly drier plains in TX, to high plains/desert in NM. Also, I like the feeling of being "in the great wide open".
It comes down to opinion I guess. I would prefer I 40 over I 80 any day of the week, but some might feel otherwise. Either way I still think there is more to see on I 40 thru NM than there is on most roads as you near the east coast. The east coast looks the same the whole way down it until you get to Florida, in my opinion!

I remember driving through the east mountains in 1998 or 1999 and there was road construction, and every year from there on every time I drive through there its road construction, I dont even know what that road looks like in that area without road crews on it.

I40 in New Mexico is terrible. New Big I, 8 new bridges in ABQ, ten years of buiding those; and the ridiculous expansion through East Mountain, took seven years - and all that constuction from the Texas border for 40 miles west...

Ah heck, just avoid the interstates all together. They're almost all under construction somewhere.

Don't forget about Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska among others. What an idiot!

Ten years.. what are you talking about. It only took 3 years. For the whole project. 2 for the bridges. I work for the city so I know thats a lie.

Wow, those really ARE heavy trucks. 80,000 thousand pounds equals 80,000,000 or 80 million pounds. No wonder I-40 is torn up!
Sorry, DOUBLE H. Just giving you a hard time.
To the subject at hand: North Central Texas is ALWAYS under construction somewhere. With a population of 6.3 million (yikes! ), you should see what a traffic jam REALLY is. Even without construction, there is a daily 20-mile jam on Hwy 121/183 twice a day, eastward in the AM and westward in the PM.
