Hi all,

My young and energetic family will be moving to Albuquerque in September and we are looking for an artsy family friendly neighborhood with people who are likely to share our views. Well, they don't have to share them, but any area where people are tolerant and somewhat progressive should work.

A little background on us- We're a 20-ish/early 30s African American family with a 2 year old. My hubby is an artist/entreprenuer and I work in international health. I'll be doing some short term work with the New Mexico Department of Health and we'd like to find out where the clean hippies, film critics, wine drinking, family oriented young folks live and hang out. We love outdoors and nature but we'd like a small piece of city life if possible in NM.

I'll be working around this area and am open to a 20-25 minute commute...

300 San Mateo, Suite 902
Albuquerque, NM 87108

Thanks for your help!

Awesome thanks...I've looked on the alibi- the alternative liberal magazine and it seems like we'll be able to find something that will create an artsy vibe without living in Taos or SF...

Absolutely. SF and Taos are great places, but do not contain all of NMs hip scenes.

At the same time though, eventually I'd like to move to Ridgecrest, so try not to inflate the prices too much.

Any other options? I'm assuming this area is mostly townhouses and we really want to rent a house with a yard...

We'll try not to create too much of an up and coming indie scene there... but if we do- I'll be sure and let you know before hand!

Ridgecrest is a beautiful area (grew up there). I haven't been around there in a while but I remember the demographics being more older people. Maybe it's changed. The schools are not great, so plan on home schooling or private/charter schools.

You can search various neighborhoods/zip codes here (by clicking on the names of various neighborhoods) and check out the demographics, crime, etc...

An occasional bit of dust is fine

It looks like we'll be looking at Ridgecrest and nob hill..

How is Albuquerque in terms of up and coming neighborhoods? Any other places that we should look at?
