The athletics department had money set for this project for years now, such comes from ticket sales and other athletic areas of the school, and about 15% comes from the schools budget (campus), which to me is still kinda crazy, this will not have a impact on any areas of the university or staff.. they are also selling the Naming rights to the Arena which i mentioned a few posts ago.. which means big bucks for the arena $$$$

Are you sure the naming rights aren't just for the luxury boxes. At many college basketball there will be Lexus Boxes, Wells Fargo Luxury Boxes, etc.

Nope i'm possitive dude, Honestly i dont think " University Arena" is a great name for one of Americas greatest college basketball Arenas..someone will buy out the naming rights..its just a wonder whom will fight for it first?!, but they will also do it for the luxury boxes as well, and all the new adverstisements that will be everywhere.

The basketball team is where most of the pride in UNM Athletics resides. This is our best major sport for both Men and Women and it is usually exciting on some very key games. UNM football lags behind always, and though the baseball team is getting much better, it doesn't quite have the following. People don't like the pit, but to knock down the 13th best venue of the 20th century would be rediculous. However, they really should think twice about reducing seats by that much. Why can't they only convert half of the mezzanine into boxes, and leave the other half as normal seats.

Yea thats pretty crazy to cut that many seats..where would Espanola fit lol, did you happen to catch the NMAA state basketball tournaments last year?
Espanola Valley High School Parents, Fans and Students, litterally,.. i'm not even lying filled up the pit, with red and yellow everywhere.. nearly 15,200 people from Espanola atteneded the game thats most of the Valley, and about 200 attended from Albuquerque Academy.. Espanola has always packed the pit for the past two years it was even more exciting last year, to see how far they made it.. the recorded decible level was at 117, making it one of the loudest high school basketball games in the west, and Espanola is the ONLY school to ever fill up the pit.. it came out on every major newspaper in teh state. The University even has a panoramic picture of the pit during the Espanola vs. Academy Game, EVHS fell by 1 point in OT. The game before that between Espanola vs. Roswell had about 14,600 people.

Well... even my Grandmother is a die-hard Lobo Basketball fan. I like both football and basketball equally.
