so true, we just had an experience here in NWA. We changed vets. I really think if OP has all the records of shots that would all that would be needed.

Neither of my pets is micro-chipped. My indoor kitty hasn't had shots for 3yrs, and given her recent diagnosis of kidney disease and stress she is under to even go to the vet, I would not do that if not required by law. my vet is not inclined to either. Same with microchip. As it is I will use sedative for our car trip from NYS to ABQ. So in ABQ it is an absolute law that she have rabies shot and microchip? My dog can get the chip, no problem, and had all shots. Lilac

Yes. Rabies shot, city license and microchip. I'm not aware of any exceptions for health of the animal but you might want to check with a local ABQ vet and see. I would think the rabies shot is the most important as it's required to get the license. Perhaps if you did that you could somehow opt out of the microchip due to medical condition?
My cat ( Karma ) died about 4 years ago of kidney disease ( prior to microchip law ) and it's unlikely I would have done anything above and beyond the rabies shot. I only did that since she liked to go outside and sit in the grass in her last few months.
If your cat is indoor only, and considering the illness she has, unless someone reports you, you could probably stay under the radar.

When I drove here from California, my vet also said I needed it. Not a bad idea to get, and you can give a copy to your new vet when you establish care here.

There is no way, I would ever pass on a rabies shot for an indoor cat. It only takes one mishap for them to get outside and possibly exposed to rabies. Its cheap insurance. My cats won't need another rabies shot for 3 yrs.
I know in Maine right now, five horses have died from EEE. Simply because their owners did not spend the money to vaccinate. Most likely those horses didn't have other shots either. My horses always had their yearly shots, it was a given.

Sgl11453 - did you end up needing it? I made it to ABQ this evening! But my fiancé is coming next weekend with the dogs. I did notice there is a checkpoint for produce coming into CA but not the other way. Thanks for all the responses, I think we're good to go!

There is also some controversy about the side effects from rabies shots. And my kittie actually refuses to go out since the change in her health and has never been one to dart out the door. I will ask my vet, but we are avoiding unnecessary trips to the vet due to the way she stresses over it. I spare no expenses for my dog and cat; don't make it about that. The 1900 mile trip is already a big worry for me and she will need sedation. I'm just really worried about causing a worsening in her kidneys.
