As we should know, Verizon has bought out Alltel, and as a condition that the DOJ required for the merger to go forward, certain markets will be divested.
According to this map, it looks like Verizon will be divesting the Albuquerque Alltel network and customers:

From what I have read, AT&T will be acquiring most of the divested assets. Since Alltel uses CDMA instead of GSM/UMTS, AT&T will probably initially operate both a GSM/UMTS network and a CDMA network simultaneously in Albuquerque, however, AT&T will probably gradually convert the divested Alltel customers to GSM/UMTS. In addition, after all customers are converted to the GSM/UMTS network, AT&T can use the existing Alltel spectrum to improve coverage in the area, perhaps expanding 3G UMTS to Los Lunas and Belen.
