Default Registering to Vote

As a New Mexico resident upon registering to vote is it required to register with a party affiliation? Can you register when you apply for your N.M. drivers license?

What I'm getting at or referring too is when I registered in Georgia years & years ago...you just register to vote. No party affiliations, no ideology...just register yourself legally to cast a ballot.

I'm hoping this is the same in New Mexico. Party lines and their ideology as a whole...suck. I can come to my own conclusions based on facts, not rants, talking points, or hatred to any party.

You can register without a party affiliation. That just means you will be unable to vote in primary elections, because only a voter registered as a party member can vote in a primary election for that party.

I think you register when applying for driver's license, but you will need some other ID showing place of residence (like a utility bill). Check out the state web site for all the rules.
