Balloon Fiesta
Its almost that time folks!
I have a question for seasoned attendees.
If I plan to go to the special shapes rodeo mass ascension on Thurs morning, what time (or what is the latest time) do you suggest I arrive at the parking lot (I am driving all of the way to the park b/c park and ride would cost more b/c they charge for kids to ride the bus)?
Is 6am too late to arrive? I know on opening day, and the weekend, you have to get there really really early, but on the weekday, can you get away with a later arrival? Should I aim for 530am?

Lisdol, we generally go to that event and arrive around 5:45-6. We do come from the north (south on I25, exit Tramway and 1/4-1/2 mile south on the frontage road down to that entrance), and there is less traffic than coming in from Alameda.

I'm coming from the East, and thinking about going up to the Tramway exit, or even taking the scenic route all the way up Tramway and over to the park.
thanks for the info!

the dawn patrol launches at 5:30am depending on weather conditions. shortly therafter, they begin to inflate and launch.
you might consider getting there a bit earlier (5:15 - 5:30)
traffic can at times be a problem.
Check the weather befor leaving... if it's windy, they probably will postpone or not launch at all.

Take the Tramway exit from the I-40 and go that way - I-25 will be a parking lot and from Tram you'll be heading in the right direction with fewer switch backs. And the kids, if awake and you have, will be able to see the "dawn patrol" - you can give them tales about it as you drive.
BTW - don't forget to look around about where you park - it's a BIG lot - almost lost myself the last time. LOL

Oooooh, I will miss the Balloon Fiesta this year! I agree that the Special Shapes Rodeo is the best day to go. You are much better off getting there early at 5:00 especially if this is your first visit. You really don't want to miss the dawn patrol.
Be sure to bring a good camera that shoots well in low light to capture the best pics. It is an amazing event to photograph. Some of my favorite photos are fo the special shapes balloons.
