Angel Fire is the place, so long as you don't mind a lot of other Texans.

They do not sell any tickets on base anymore, however everywhere I've gone this year (Red River, Santa Fe, and Angel Fire) all offer military discounts. Angel fire was my favorite, though I enjoyed the town of rid river.

I called Angel Fire today and was surprised to find out they do not start taking reservations for December until August, i was hoping to book something far enough in advance to pay on it as the time goes by.

Good people but in IMO the area is overpriced for its size. Convenient, but Santa Fe is too and is the same price and much nicer. Even better is Taos and Angel Fire.

It will depend on what you're used to. If you are used to skiing the premier resorts of the West, then it will be a disappointment. If you are happy with any patch of snow, you will like it. When there is a lot of snow it is good, but not every year gets a lot of snow. A typical season sees a few good snows early, then a dry stretch through January, and maybe another good snow or two toward the end of the season. For best conditions you should check their website which also has a live webcam of the base area.

I have never really paid attention to whether the staff were sociable or whether the management cared. I have skied Santa Fe and Taos but did not like them that much more than Sandia to make a habit of traveling to those places since I live so close to Sandia.

I xc ski, so all I have to do is park anywhere and go.. no lift tickets, long lines or crowds.

I've always assumed that relationship with the premier Western ski areas.

I've also assumed that it is better than anyplace East of Sandia.
( I mean WAY East - like New England, and not just a bit East. )
The desert West must have better snow due to the dry air.

As a non-downhill skiier, I just assume that.
Someone who has skiied in New Hampshire, or something might
have different opions that are better informed than my assumption.
