So, my employer gives out turkeys to all of us underlings each Thanksgiving. However, we have plans this year that don't require us to prepare a bird. Are there any local charities that you all know of that accept frozen turkeys?

Thanks for your help!

Most 501 (c) (3) charities make their tax documents public but because Joy Junction is technically a "church" they don't have to and they don't. I always like to see tax documents just to check the salaries of the people who run charities and when I can't find out what they are...I run from the charity.

Joy Junction is a very reputable charity. Anyone who lives here should know that.

Reputable is up for debate.

I only donate to charities that have made their tax records public, including ( and most important to me ) their CEO/employee salary information. I'd like to think that someone in charge of a charity such as this is making a living wage, but not as much as their lack of disclosure makes me think they are.

They tout that they do not take any funding from local, state or federal government sources ( a charity their size could probably get huge amounts of funding money ) but if they did take that money, they'd have to open their books.

They get a lot of individual contributions and if someone is comfortable donating to them, that's great. I just am not...and I don't contribute money to religious groups either, so that's two reasons for me to avoid them.

The Salvation Army can use any food for their food baskets. I do work for them, and donate much each year. I have seen the work they do, local and disaster.
