The Dia de los Muertos and Marigold Parade will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2009. The location of the event is The Westside Community Center: Muertos y Marigolds > Home
Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I would have replied that it's worth going to at least once. I did it last year, and really enjoyed it, except the exhaust from all the dressed up low-riders gave my wife an asthma attack.
Yes! Thanks so much for posting -they are awesome--- I went and had a GREAT time, both at the Parade and the community center afterwords. The community center had dancing, art, music and just fun!
There will be an "Arte De Muertos" expo -- day of the dead ghosts and folk art, next weekend Nov 7&8 from 10am to 6pm at the Santa Ana star casino, santa ana pueblo, free admission and free parking. Home . Also some thing at the Hispanic cultural center I believe.
These are the kinds of things that make me love Albuquerque even more than I do now...
My question: does anyone know where to get the skeleton pet costumes and general day of the dead costumes??? I really want to dress up next year....
Thanks for the heads up! We will stop by the "Arte De Muertos", we live about five miles away...
I have dogs, and I noticed the skeleton pet costumes. I don't know where they got them. They may have made them? For the South Valley Día de los Muertos Celebration they have free workshops:
Rich, Did you end up going to this? If so, how was it? I am just not able to make it to the art expo this time but hope to go next time. I am still dying to know how it was.
My wife and I went to the Expo on Saturday. We enjoyed it. We will go back. The vendors were very friendly, informative and professional.
I took some pictures, some below. You really can't see all the vendors, they looked filled. Actually the pictures on the their site are accurate and better depict the Expo: Photos
We were there probably an hour and did some shopping elsewhere before and after and ate lunch. We live about five miles from the casino so for us, going was not a problem.
Antonio R. Garcez, the author of some good ghost books was there, I meant on going back to get one of his books but, forgot.
Artist Scott Garcia was there, first of my picture, Informative etc, what can I say, I enjoyed talking to him. His site: Scott Garcia's Hypercanvas.com
I had a good time, but some say I am easily impressed. I am, I don't expect a lot, just some friendly conversation. I am not into these "arts", but I find it interesting.
