Unhappy Advice???? Meeting/making friends

Hi Everyone,

I feel lame asking the question... but, any advice on making/meeting new friends?

It seemed so much easier when we were younger and in school/college.

We are both 30 years old. We are usually quiet at first until we get more comfortable....

Its been almost 3 weeks since we arrived and now I am getting antsy for friends and things to do.

Thanks everyone.

Well, we're retired so we do a lot of day stuff that probably wouldn't apply but
there's always the classic stuff like churches, dinner groups (we do that a lot),
craft / art / music / outdoors (very big here) / special interest / etc. groups.

It's been so long since I've been 30 that I don't have a clue what the young
married social scene is, now..

I think it gets harder after you leave your 20's, even harder when you have a young child. We've been here just over 4 years and the only people we really know are neighbours and people through work.

Even harder when you are in your 50s and raising a 5 yr old. Probably the hardest. But it does take time to meet people in any new place.

I like the great outdoors, art, shopping, music, travelling, movies, a good drink and good food.
Hubby is more on the quiet side. He likes movies, video games and sports.

Between the two of us I am more outgoing than he is.. but we are both very shy at first. His best friends are his brothers. He has one in Santa Fe, but the rest are on the East Coast.

I'm trying to get more active and looking for new hobbies things to do. We have a little dog and are thinking about taking her the dog park.

I think I am going to try to get involved in the church we have been going to... and maybe join an exercise class.

I don't know. This is tough. I am sure I will make a couple friends at my job, but I want to also have friends out side of work. Back home I was very social and always getting together with girl friends. And my hubby spent a lot of time with his brothers. Or we'd have double dates with some of my girl friends and their sig others.

The longer we are here the more I feel like we are turning into homebodies. Which is nice every now and then, but not constantly.

We have no children. Don't plan on any for another year or two.

I totally feel like I am writing a bizarre personal ad! Haha
