I'm moving back to Albuquerque in a week. After 12 years of living in Minnesota, I have missed getting a decent chile relleno.

Any recommendations?

The best I have had recently are at Los Equipales. Note, these are Mexican, rather than New Mexican style and are not always on the menu. One is stuffed with cheese and the other with a mixture of meat, rice and raisins. It's fantastic.

For more NM style ( and I like 'em with green ), I've had good ones at Church St Cafe, El Camino Dining Room and Casa de Benvidez. At CdB, the batter was a little thick, but the chile was nice and spicy, it made up for it.

Of course what one person likes another doesn't, but the best I've had in a while were at Monica's El Portal in Old Town. I like them cooked until crunchy and almost burnt, and these were just they way I like them, nice flavor. Plus I like the homey atmosphere, local families with all their tíos and sobrinos and abuelas.

Too bad you can't make it down by Cruces, because Chope's reportedly makes the best rellenos in the country:

Mike those look so good, I love good ones, in fact I think the true Mexican ones are better than the New Mexico types. I love to cook, but I think they are about the hardes thing there is to make.

Mike, if I gain a lot of weight when I get back to Albuquerque, I'm gonna hold you personally responsible for posting that picture!

I think El Pinto and Sadies are the two best. Even both Little Anita's and Garduños are pretty good.

I've dined at Sadie's twice, and both times the food was over the top good. However, I did not order rellenos either time.

Been to Hot Tamales in Rio Rancho probably 100+ times:
http://www.nmgastronome.com/nm/newmexican/tamales.htm

Been to the Monroes at 6051 Osuna Road NE about five times:
Gil's Thrilling (And Filling) Blog » Monroe’s New Mexican Food – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Only been to Mary & Tito’s twice, plan on going back:
Gil's Thrilling (And Filling) Blog » Mary & Tito’s Cafe – Albuquerque, New Mexico

They all have good rellenos, and other good food and service.

I agree with many of the recommendations already given (there are a few listed which I have not been to.)
