A lot of gun violence. You'll get shot if you just look at someone funny. In a "Good" Neighborhood (Taylor Ranch - in a popular "family" park) some kid shot another kid that was running away - trying to get away. Tons of burglary and car theft. But mainly a lot of violent crime.
I moved to ABQ from Los Angeles (Long Beach - where the L.A. Riots started, remember?) and I felt much safer in the L.A. area than in ABQ. I finally got my butt outta there. The crime was awful and still is. I check the local TV website (KOB) usually every day and there's usually another front-page murder, rape, DWI/manslaughter, or home invasion - practically every day!

I looked at a lot of people funny when I lived in ABQ and never got shot. I never even got the beat down!.

Errr, no. Gun violence/murder rate for albuquerque is on par, or slightly below other cities in its size range. Albuquerque typically records 40 - 50 murders per year in a city of ~550,000 people. Nearly all, or the vast majority of these were drug-related etc. While I would certainly like to see that number at zero, violent crime rates aren't really all that high. As a comparison, Baltimore MD records between 200 and 250 murders per year, in a city of 600,000. Crime in ABQ is predictable as Zoidberg mentions.
All this violent crime talk started to make me worry, but then I remembered that I was born in the city that coined the term concrete jungle. Furthermore, I can get to carry in ABQ. =)
the guy that shot down a police helicopter and it landed in a neighborhood
I remember this. The shooter was an ex-marine sniper. Maybe another case of PTSD.

this one is a while back but a 15 y/o and his friend took turns raping and beating a UNM student, then they raped her again after they killed her
Are you referring to the Linda Daniel's case? That was a long time ago -- 24 years. My sister used to work at Zinn's bakery when this happened and had always thought Johnny Zinn was a creep.
