So moving to the area in a few weeks for a job at UNM. I have been told by other posters and my future co-workers to look into NE Heights.
La Mirage seems to fit my budget and be close to bars/rest/shopping/grocers/parks/trails etc.
Here is their address.10700 Academy Road
NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111
I was just visiting ABQ looking for apartments last weekend and I went to La Mirage. Of the 15 apartments I visited in 3 days, La Mirage was in the top 3 "short list." I liked them alot, and as it turned out all 3 were part of the same management company. (The other 2 were Eagle Ranch and River Walk.) My decision came down to pluses and minuses over details, but I do not think you could go wrong with any of these 3. I have my own washer/dryer and La Mirage does not allow residents to bring their own (because they have no way to store the ones that they provide.) That, plus I generally liked the NW area slightly better, was what made me choose River Walk. If you contact La Mirage ask for Shelley, she was very helpful. The rental websites have good info too. DM me if you would like. Best wishes!
That looks like a really good location. Sunflower Market is very close and it has
lots of good "organic" produce and healthily grown meats at good prices. We shop
there a lot.
I realize that the far NW corner is too remote for some people, but it's surprisingly
accessible to good restaurants and stores. We aren't barflies so we don't know
much about the Downtown and Nob Hill bar scene, but that's all that really appears
to be missing.
I had an apartment at LaMirage the 6 months I worked in Albuquerque (July - December). I liked it a lot. It's a quiet neighborhood. It's walking distance to Smiths, Walgreen's, etc. It's also walking distance to the small park at Eubank. To me that was important.
The people working at LaMirage was always friendly and helpful. I never got to use the pools in the area, but I used the gym a lot. Small but functional - and for the most part quite empty.
I also lived at the La Mirage for about six months till we moved into
our house. I would have lived there indefinitely had we not moved.
If you are working at the University, La Mirage is right on Academy
and you can pick up a quick and easy bus to UNM ( via downtown )
there. You also have access to both the #1 and #2 bus which take
you to Central and UNM.
While the drive to UNM is easy the parking at UNM is hard hard hard.
Adding the time to park-shuttle to your commute, the bus might
even be quicker. Even if not, being dropped-off car-free on Central
where there is good eating is so much better than trying to find
parking on that college campus.
There is good shopping within walking distance to La Mirage.
There is easy access to all other shopping via automobile.
