Default $175K per year / Newer house, kid friendly, and good shopping?

We are looking at moving to the ABQ area from the east coast and are looking for a newer safe neighborhood with VERY good elementary schools. Also it must be close to REAL shopping (Wal-Mart does not count). I don't want to drive 25 minutes for a nice mall and restaurants. We make about $175K per year to give you a gauge as to the house price we are looking at.

My commute will probably be to the area near the convention center. My wife will be working near the 25 and Osuna Road.

Did a search, but nothing quite fit....

Thanks!

Your salary does not equate to a home price. How much are you budgeting for a house?

What is "real Shopping" besides "not Wal-Mart"? ABQ Uptown has some nice stores but is close to Coronado Mall which does not ( unless a disappointing Macy's counts )

Try Ridgecrest, ABQ Country Club, Los Ranchos.

I can suggest Tanoan Country club, pretty close to the Uptown shopping area, close to Osuna, Not too bad of a drive dowtown. Also, you may be interested in Los Ranchos. You might also like the very far northeast heights (not too far from I-25, nice houses, etc). You might also want to consider Nob Hill if you are into a more youthful area of town.

We are looking at homes in the $350-450K range. "Real" shopping would be something along the lines of ABQ Uptown
