I'm pretty sure the "white" population of Albuquerque is ~70%. So unless whites and hispanics together make up about 140% of the population of Albuquerque, one of us is mistaken

The word I used was "Anglophone", meaning a person who speaks English.

P.S. I grew up in an area with a lot of Puerto Ricans too. Got my lunch at a bodega everyday. Never had to speak a lick of Spanish to be understood. Actually, the people hardest to understand were Jamaicans who were ostensibly speaking English (albeit patois).

The 2000 US Census data for Albuquerque showed Whites 71.6% and Hispanics 39.9% for a total of 111.5%! The discrepancy of course is that many Hispanics list themselves as White and the census lumps all "White Persons" together, including White Hispanics, but counts Hispanics of all types separately.

The numbers I cited were for White Non-Hispanic vs. Hispanic. I know the demographics have shifted over the last 5 years, so I'd suggest that today the numbers are more like 50% White Non-Hispanic, 40% Hispanic. And this lends credence to the numbers being about 43% White Non-Hispanic/44% Hispanic around 2003.

ABQConvict snuck one by the autocensor:

You can also use he||.

They need an additional category where O'Malley married Martinez and
Fredrick married Flores and so on and on and on.

Black and White (and Hispanic) are virually useless terms anyway. Worldview and language are more relevant in distinguishing groups than skin color.

What they need is an additional category for Italians. What is so special about Hispanics? Have Italians had any less influence on American society and history than Hispanics? Does anyone here NOT like pizza? And I resent Hispanics being referred to as Latinos. Last I heard, Latin is the language of Rome. So who are the TRUE "Latinos"?

ChasP505 thought of something disgusting:

> Does anyone here NOT like pizza?

Ew.

I could eat pizza for breakfast and have done so. (Have enjoyed it.)

Of course, *proper* pizza in New Mexico has green chile on it.

Speaking of pizza, Sal-E-Boys on Southern, west of Unser in Rio Rancho makes a good NY style pizza (not like that Dion's cardboard with ketchup shmeared on it). And they deliver in the area!

If you grew up eating Dion's and frozen pizzas, you may not like the flavor of the sauce or the oil that drips out the back of the slice when you fold it NY style.

I'm afraid we're fighting a losing battle here, Chas. There are people who PREFER bad Pizza.

I work with a woman (well, a girl, really) who upon my expression of preference for New York style Pizza said she wholeheartedly agreed. So, in my neverending quest for a good slice in this town asked, "What's you favorite pizza in town?" to which she replied, "Domino's Brooklyn-style. It has foldable slices!".

I wept for a solid hour.

That said, the options have improved in the last 10 years or so.

Ok, questions New Yorkers...

How does Marios compare?
How does Saggios compare?
How does Venenzios (sp?) Compare?
How does NYPD Pizza Compare?

What else tastes decent?

My family orginates as Italian Immigrants from Buffalo, so I always trusted the stuff my mom and grandma made at home.

I am honestly interested.

Oh yeah, and good news. A California Pizza Kitchen is coming!!!!

Abqsunport... One thing I've known for a long time is you can't make an authentic NY pizza crust (or a bagel for that matter) in the Albuquerque area because of the difference in the water, secondly, the altitude. I got this information from a number of sources: a bread baker from Fano Bread Co., the owners of 2 local Italian specialty stores, a bagel maker at a Wolfe's Bagels, and my cousin who is the owner of 2 Italian food establishments in lower Manhattan. I've also read this in various food articles over the years, but I can't cite specifically.

That said, here are my comparisons. I'll use Dions as the baseline standard of boring Albuquerque pizza.

Marios is OK... a step up from Dions. They used to be better before opening the big location on San Pedro & Cutler.
Never tried Saggios, but I heard it's more of a foo-foo "designer pizza".
Venezia's in Rio Rancho can be very good to excellent. Depends on who is working that day. For some reason their east side San Mateo store is not nearly as good... (Dions equivalent).
NYPD is no better than Dions. Fast food pizza facsimile.

I like Mimo's pizza and food in general. Mimo's is on Coors, north of I-40, just south of St. Pius X H.S.
Sal-E-Boys on Southern west of Unser in Rio Rancho has an interesting sauce, spicier than most. They sometimes go heavy on the oil, but that's OK. I like it a lot.

If I HAVE to eat "Dions quality" pizza, I prefer to eat it at Village Pizza in Corrales. It's a cool place, a very friendly family atmosphere, and they have that "eat all you can stand" buffet.
