It's not as bad as these people make it out to be.
Maybe renting is what you should do first.

Rio Rancho is a mega burb and very much like hundreds of other new housing construction areas in the country. You could live your life and never leave the place, if you so chose.

I am not an expert but here is my take: Prescott isn't as crowded, taxes will be similar (maybe a little lower in Pres) but, depending on what you are looking for in housing you will pay more. yes, no matter what some are saying, you can buy for $200,000. Rio Rancho will not be nearly as cold I don't think. Rio Rancho, being so close to Abq will offer better shopping, which is a plus, more more crime, which is a negative. From some reason I get the opinion the job market isn't an issue, if it is, you will find more employment in the Rio Rancho area. BTW, traffic in RR is horrible.

you are right about being bilingual, as for the crime, it is high, but Rio Rancho certainly isn't like the low income areas of Albuquerque...

J Mello, come and look with an open mind. I think most of us are just pointing out the negatives. Too many people more to a new area with stars in their eyes. After making the move they see the nightmares instead of stars. Albquerque has a lot of very posiitve things going for it. Those in charge just have to get out of the dark ages and realize progress can be good...

Yeah, If you want to spend all your time and money in the 2% of shops that employ monolingual Spanish speakers, it will help to be bilingual. Or, if you so choose, you can patronize the other 98% of shops where everyone speaks perfectly good English despite their German, French, Spanish, or Italian heritage. If you want to move to a place where no one speaks English, try New York City.
And Rio Rancho is the most "American" place in the Middle Rio Grande valley. Nevertheless, I sometimes I wonder what's in the water there when I read some of these posts.

How wide and how deep is the Rio Rancho? Can you take a rental canoe down the rapids with a cooler of beer? If so, I'd move there in a flash!
