I recently visited Maysville KY and had some Old Pogue bourbon. It's still privately owned by the fifth generation of the Pogue family using the original recipe from the late 1800's. It was really good stuff.
I'm so tired of seeing limited this, and limited that. Several years ago I quit trying to seek out those hard to find bottles and settled on ones that were readily available and less expensive.
My go to bottles were
Elmer T Lee
EH Taylor (small batch, single barrel, barrel proof)
Weller 12
Stagg Jr
Blanton's.
Now, those have become the hard to find bottles, and prices have gone up. Good thing the craze hasn't hit Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace....yet.
It's pretty insane. Paying $100 for Elmer T Lee or Weller 12 here....if you can find it! $70 for Blanton's and you need a tip to locate that too.
I need a source from Kentucky who will send things to the desert. We get nothing here!

I had a source from TX a few years ago that couldn't get rid of Weller 12 for $23 a bottle. I think at one time I had 5 or 6 bottles on hand. Sadly the source dried up and I've got one bottle left.
Blanton's has always been $70 here in MI, and for the most part hasn't become a unicorn yet.
Elmer used to be $40... that was my all around favorite at that price.
Does bourbon evaporate from unopened bottles? In the History thread, somebody mentions a stash of 85-year-old bourbon being found behind a wall. Would you expect the bottles to be a quarter full or less?
Would you drink Prohibition-era whiskey? I wouldn't. Especially if the label was "printed with a rubber stamp" as Dashiell Hammett put it.
Greetings Bourbonites.
We are heading to Kentucky soon and I'm wondering if there are any new "Kentucky Only" bourbons out which I should keep my eyes peeled for. We'll be focused on the Lexington area this trip, so if you have recommendations for a good shop please share- I only get out there once, and sometimes twice, a year so I promise I won't be scooping up all the good stuff, but just want a chance to find a place or two with a good assortment and fair prices.
Thanks, Busy
