Our county is going to have the question to allow alcohol sales on the November ballot.
Seemed strange moving from a state with lots of bars ( Minnesota) to a dry county ( Arkansas)
But, 20 miles to buy a case of beer isn't too bad.
Yep, pretty much describes life in the bible belt, or more accurately in the baptist belt. Not much different in NC. Still see news coverage where nearby counties have an item on the ballot about alcohol sales. One even had 9 different things to vote on, as beer, wine, and liquor sales as "take home" items are handled different than for consumption on premiss (a beer with your hamburger, a glass of wine with dinner, or a mixed drink before dinner). Preacher men get their mugs on the local news about the "sin" and the "presence of satan on the towns streets" but the measure is almost always passed by the voters.
Yet as a kid I remember going with my dad to the "bootleggers" to get beer or liquor here. Pretty dark ages and backward.
I didn't take it that they felt guilty about drinking, just about posting in a predominantly non alcoholic thread. At any rate, welcome!
I guess the "guilty" comment was from being a life long spectator in the bible belt.
Posted a joke in a different thread in this sub-forum about baptists not recognizing each other in the liquor store. It's funny for the simple reason it is true. Watching people buy alcohol here can be amusing if one pays attention. You would think they were buying porn or sex toys.
Maybe there needs to be a rule about "no temperance league proselytizing" in this sub-forum
If the temperance league still exists, it will probably find us here. BTW, AN, you and I seems to end up in the same places, forum after forum. Beer is my beverage of choice. Cheers!
