Since we like to have mixed drinks generally more than straight shots, I keep a lot of fun "basics" around.
  • Bacardi's flavored rums (esp. Torched Cherry & Dragonberry)
  • Pinnacle Whipped
  • Coconut Rum 90pf
  • Apple Pucker
  • Midori Melon
  • Hpnotiq
  • Vodka (typically Absolut or Skyy, but sometimes Bardenay)
  • Everclear
  • Gin (Tanqueray)
  • SoCo
  • Crown Royal
  • Jaeger
  • Jameson

As for mixers, we typically have some of these around:
  • Lemon Lime pop (7-up, Sierra Mist)
  • Lime Juice
  • Sour Mix (we never use sweet & sour)
  • Orange Juice
  • Red Bull
  • Cranberry Juice
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Grenadine

And I know this is a strange one, but I've taken to always having Corona around for a mixed drink that's really popular with my friends (and the sole reason I keep gin around):

Drink the Corona 'til the neck is empty, pour in a shot of gin and a shot of lime juice, place your thumb firmly over the bottle's mouth and invert once to mix (do this over the sink until you get used to it...it will foam). Drop in a lime wedge and enjoy. It sounded horrific when I first tried it, but I instantly fell in love with it.

We are such wine drinkers and so are our friends that we probably would not be considered having a well stocked bar: what we do always have:

Vodka, usually a mid priced brand
vermouth
gin: Tangueray
2 kinds of scotch: one mid priced, one a little better, but still not really expensive
(right now we have Glenlivit and JWalker red)
rum:again not top of the line
2 or 3 laquors
2 brandies: 1 cheap for cooking
lots of red and white wine, from boxed ones to ones running about $15 a bottle: that is our limit
a couple kinds of beer during the summer, but rarely during the winter unless we are having someone over we know drinks only beer.
Jim Beam bourbon

I am thinking I might want to toss the gin or find a way to use it in cooking. The only person we know or knew that drank gin was our priest in NM. She was a very good friend but that was over 4 years ago and she has since died. (no, not from the gin)

Nita

Interesting! I've done this with Bacardi Limon, never thought to try gin.

In my cabinet right now:

Buffalo Trace
Bulleit Bourbon
Bulleit Rye
Evan Williams Black (I use this to make custom-infused whiskeys like jalapeno whiskey)
Jameson
Glenlivet Nadurra
Dewars
Johnnie Walker Gold
Sol
Patron (I'm actually not a tequila fan, though)
Sailor Jerry's
Bacardi Silver
Three Olives (used almost exclusively for bloody's)
Tanqueray
Hendrick's
Always a brandy, usually Paul Mason, used for sangria and the like

Triple Sec, Creme de Menthe, Kahluha, Frangelica, Amaretto, Grand Marnier, Krupnikas, other assorted spirits and schnapps that I only use for mixing

Always on hand are oranges, limes, lemons, bitters, etc
