I just finished watching some kind of History of Beer on the Modern Marvels show at a friend of mines house. We talked about him getting one of those kits. I went and looked online and checked out a place. Do you guys make your own brew? If you do, where did you get the stuff for it? How did you like it?

Panda - DH occasionally brews with a friend....someone who doesn't mind if their home smells like a frat house LOL.....that's the downside IMO....He enjoys it and likes the brew. Most cities of any size have some sort of home brew store - then we just keep reusing the bottles etc.....

It is really easy to do, specially now with the resurgence in it. The biggest thing is sterilization since failure to do so properly will skunk an entire batch or kill it entirely. This is all from reading and talking to others that have done it though.

I've got everything I need to run up my first batch and am about to do it myself but haven't found the time to actually sit down and make sure it is done right. Supposedly it is something you can do pretty quick once you become proficient but it can consume a lot of time until you do.

My sister and her husband has done it once or twice. They really liked it and it wasn't too difficult. Unfortunately I never got to try any of it (we live in a different city and by the time we were together they drank it all!)

My dad usually has a few 5 gallon glass bottles bubbling at any one time. He makes up his own recipes and does it all by memory as a hobby. His last batch was a really dark (guinness type) chocolate raspberry lager that was freaking amazing. A whole meal (plus dessert!) in a glass.

a friend of mine brewed his own beer at home and LOVED it...he enjoyed the process as much as the product. I don't know anything about how he did it though...

my husband has been a home-brewer for nearly 20 years. he started out small with using the canned mixture to start things. now, we have big bags of grains, malt, hops etc. stored around in our basement. also, the bottles! lots of empty bottles to save to be cleaned. Just remember to really read all directions and be sure to have really clean bottles. it is easy to get things contaminated if you don't have really clean stuff. You can usually find a homebrew store near where you live and there is a lot of info online. Plus, there are lots of local homebrew clubs. They meet, talk about successes and failures and drink their beer! there are tons of homebrew contests, plus, if you really get into it, you can take a test and become a certified homebrew judge. good luck

hey buddy. i happen to be seasoned home brewer. is it your first time? you can either do extract brewing or all-grain brewing. i guess that should be your first decision. extract is better to start with since it has less steps. there are step by step videos on youtube you can check out. DO NOT GET A MR BEER KIT!!! find a homebrew store and buy real ingredients!!!
