Is anyone for the most part strictly a social drinker? The only time I ever really drink more than a couple is when I'm out with friends. I also tend to have a difficult time drinking in moderation when I'm out (usually 6-8 drinks over a few hours), though I rarely get "sloppy". Legally drunk, sure, but passing out at the bar, unable to walk straight, talk without slurring, etc, no.

Pretty much. I try not to even get a buzz when I'm out. I'm not always successful at it, but that's usually the case. Just go for quality over quantity and you'll savor rather than quaff.

I'm mostly social. I only ever drink 1-2 total and never get drunk anymore.

being in a social setting, such as a bar or pub makes me nervous. i tend to drink more when i go out. if i am at home, i will drink less...enough to relax.

I used to be mostly social drinker, with friends and family, but then as I started leaving the home nest and going out to bars by myself, especially in new cities where I did not have a tight social connection, I took to drinking for myself, as one can't simply sit alone at the bar and sip lemonade. Alcohol also helps give some Dutch courage for social situations where one doesn't know anyone.

I too consider myself a social drinker. i have wine with dinner, and while making dinner, but that's pretty much it at home. When I go out I have a few more, but I rarely get "drunk". And I haven't passed out since college. Hmmm...maybe I've just built up a tolerance...

I drink socially. Sometimes, 1 or 2 a week, I may indulge and have a glass of wine with dinner!

It's not like there are any good local wines being produced in the Hill Country.

I don't think you are a social drinker by your own definition.
Any time you have more than a couple?
Well, that implies you have a couple outside of social situations.
If you are a guy, that should be your max. If you are a woman, two drinks is too much for regular drinking.

No. I like my Glenlivet on the rocks in the evening. Actually, I am much LESS likely to drink when I am out 'socializing.'

I guess I've grown some balls

At home maybe a glass or two of Pinot. If out, depending where Im at and who I'm with, I can do between 6-8 glasses. However, just for the record, I have a high tolerance and have never ever been sloppy..
