Its that time of year when winter beers come out of hibernation. IMO winter beers are the best beers of any of the seasons. What winter beers do you like?
I like:
Samuel Adams Winter Lager
Pyramid Snow Cap
Rogue Yellow Snow
but don't many breweries change-up the recipe for their seasonal winter beers year to year? I know Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale varies quite dramatically. The most consistently awesome (for my palate) are AleSmith's Yule Smith and Ommmegang's Adoration. The latter is hard to come by in the SoCal region.
I think it is a cool thing when they switch up the recipe. Doesn't Alesmith do 2 versions of Yulesmith? I could have sworn they did one in the summer or something like that. I left CA right as I was getting into craft beer so I never tried Yulesmith.
As far as winter warmers, there are a couple local/regional exampled I enjoy.
- Franconia Winter Wheat (weizenbock)
- Saint Arnold Christmas Ale (spiced brown ale)
Celebration and Sam Adams are always a safe bet. And another favorite I'm looking forward to again when I move back to CA is Port Brewing Santa's Little Helper.
Granville Island King's Winter Ale is deadly. So freakin delicious.
