No I haven't. Only the 12 yr old blend. Sounds like something I should look into.

I have a new favorite to add though. Highland Park. Just tried it a couple weeks ago. I've never been a big whiskey connoisseur, but after finding a few that I really enjoyed, my curiosity is growing.

If you like Highland Park 12, try Aberlour 12. As inexpensive single-malt's go, it's not a bad one. It's another sweet one like Highland Park but more along the lines of caramel-sweet rather than fruit-sweet.

I'm a fan of the Islay single malts, nice and smokey on the nose. Bowmore 16, Lagavulin 12, Ardbeg Corryvreckan or Ardbeg 10. Mmm, good. And Laphroaigh Quarter-Cask for everyday (those first four are not the cheapest of scotches, but I like nice things).

Just found this yesterday at Costco: Until July 7, instant rebate on Lagavulin 16 brings the price down to $50 ($49.99 to be exact). That's the lowest price I've ever seen, even from duty-free countries. With the Fourth of July shoppers around me crowding the beers and tequilas, I could only manage to reach for two bottles of my most favourite single malt, but I'll definitely return after the holiday to buy a couple more.

That's a great price for a terrific Islay, it retails around $65.00 or $70.00 around here.

Wow! Sweet deal. But you Californians have an abundance of choice at good prices.

Speaking of Islay though, I did just pick up a bottle of Laphroaig 10 year CASK strength for $53 in New Hampshire while driving through. It's the original peat monster. NH is basically a duty free state since they don't have a sales tax too.

Peated bourbon? Is that possible? Just currious. Hmm...dare I mix some Laphroaig into my Elijah Craig and find out?

Ha! I knew someome had it.

High West Distillery & Saloon

I can see Highwest doing that too. Never tried it but I'll have to give it a go at my local whiskey bar. If anyones tried it let me know what they thought. It sounds intriguing.

Here's a nice review of it:

Drink this now: High West Campfire Whiskey | Food and More with John Kessler

...."is a suicide blend of bourbon, rye, and peated scotch that is unlike any production whiskey I’ve tried before. And it is fantastic."

A "suicide blend?" That's a first. I guess I'd expect as much from a peated bouron though. Craziness!!

I drank Walker's Deluxe Bourbon for over 35 years, now they don't make it. I now drink Makers Mark, Devils Cut, Jack Black Label, or any that is given to me as long as it's a Bourbon.

I just tried New Holland's Beer Barrel Bourbon. An interesting experiment that some may like. They finish it in oak barrels that they’ve used to age their Dragon’s Milk imperial stout, an intriguing reversal of the bourbon barrel-aged beers brewers are making. Kind of light bodied but you can definitely taste the stout in it. It's about 30 bucks a bottle. Not really my cup of tea but I salute their creativity.
