Picked up a bottle of OGD 114 yesterday.
After a glass yesterday and a glass today, I do believe that I will not hesitate to buy another bottle in the future. I don't know of many sub $25 bourbons that can really match up to its value.

The guy at a local liquor store recommended it as his value pick too. I'll have to give it a test drive someday. I guess with a name like Old Grand Dad it's got to be decent. At least this guy thinks so:

I guess if you bump into anyone trying to unload a ****load of Pappy at a reasonable price you might think twice.
Well, in case you were wondering why you can't find that bottle of Pappy Van Winkle anywhere, here's an update to that bourbon heist story I posted about a couple years ago. I guess the perpetrators will have time to perfect their recipe for toilet bowl gin in the whoscow.

Well, it looks like one of my favorite bourbons is losing their age statement. I snapped this photo a few months ago just to illustrate a change that is happening quite frequently now in the whiskey industry. I realize with the crazy demand for whiskies, especially bourbon, that Heaven Hill distilleries probably needed to do this but it's still sad. Not that older is always better but it is nice to know more about what you are actually buying. So, if you see a bottle of Elijah Craig 12 year you might want to grab it before it's gone.

Default my favorites

I like a couple of them, so I will list them by category:
Scotch: Tomatin single malt 12 year. It has a good flavor, and does not break the bank $33.00
Bourbon: Limited exposure to it, but Bullleit is one of my favorites.
Tennessee Whiskey: Jack Daniels single barrel.
Irish Whiskey: Jameson's
Canadian: Canadian Hunter Rye. It has a surprisingly good flavor for a cheap whiskey $10.00.
Flavored: Cold Spell. It is a mint intense Canadian whiskey. It is listed at 70 proof. I find it a very nice sipping whiskey on the rocks.

It's a nice tour. Too bad you can't sample any since it's a dry county. What irony that one of the most iconic whiskies can't be sample at the distillery that makes boat loads of the stuff. At least the chocolate at the end of the tour is good.

Happy Saint Patrick's day! I suggest some Jameson, Bushmills or a big notch above, Red Breast 12 year old pot still. Some lovely Irish whiskies.

I had Red Breast 12 yr on the 17th. I also had a dram of Midleton, which is always good.
