I like distilled spirits like tequila or cognac, or those derived from them like limoncello, but for some reason I just can't stand the flavors added by fermentation i.e. beer or wine.

Cognac is a derivative of a white grape blend, quick fermented like a noveau wine until it reaches like 8% abv. I'm not sure if the distillation strips away all the solids like yeasts & tannins. But I know lots of ppl (especially women) who get migraines, gas or bloating from wine & beer but are fine with vodka & rum.

I can't get past the taste long enough to test whether I suffer those side effects from beer or wine.

Well, all alcohol is derived from fermentation...unless you invented another way. Obviously, everyone has there own preferences though.

I'm the opposite, in that I almost always prefer beer or wine to hard liquor.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are talking about?

Even tequila is fermented. (we did the Tequila Train in Guadalajara including a tour of the great Hedura Tequila Distillery) Fermentation and Distillation - Experience Tequila

Since it apparently wasn't obvious:

I like distilled spirits, but not things that aren't distilled like beer or wine. I was wondering if others had similar tastes.
