I ask because our travel agent, who just happens to be our daughter wanted to get me a nice gift for referring a few friends to her. Now, normally she wouldn't be so generous but these friends booked a 2 bedroom suite on a cruise ship for 10 days, plus 3 nights in Barcelona before the cruise and 5 days in Paris and Venice afterwards, plus another couple, traveling with them booked a regular cabin. Obviously it is a very nice commission. She decided to give me a case of Malbec, by favorite wine. Yesterday, she and hubby showed up, at the door with 12 bottles. I think I love my travel agent!!!
A bottle of Elijah Craig 12 year old barrel proof bourbon. This was a limited edition bottling that was awesome! My bud bought me a bottle when I shared with him some. I had another bottle on hold at the liquor store under his name (one per person my ass) so he decided to go buy it before I could pick it up. Quite a nice surprise. And then I got it autographed by the master distiller Craig Beam at a whiskey festival in Chicago. The only thing that sucks though is that I really want to drink it.
My nephew gave me a bottle of Johnny Walker Gold Label Scotch for xmas a couple of years ago. I know it's considered to be a top shelf blend, and it's expensive. That said, I have to admit that I prefer the Black Label, which is less costly.
A co-worker went to the Kentucky Derby and brought me back a bottle of Early Times Mint Julep. The only time I've ever drank bourbon is after distillery tours. I'm not really sure how to drink it, maybe over ice? One day I will open it and see how it tastes

That is probably how hubby feels as well. In fact he is very happy with red label, truthfully. Of course he always jumps to sip a really top of the line scotch with our son in law, or our grandson in law who really is a scotch lover, but hubby is still happy with red.
I was just gifted a bottle of Dalwhinnie today. But that's not my answer. I think it would be a tiny (4oz) bottle of homemade grapefruit liquor (similar to Limoncello, but tarter) because the guy who made it only made a small quantity and I was one of the lucky recipients, so it meant more to me than something shopped for.
A 24-Year Macallan. But honestly, I already had some 12-Year and I waited so long for an occasion to open it up that I ended up gifting the bottle years later to a very special overseas visitor. I couldn't handle the deliberation anymore: "Is this the time? Should I wait?"
I was actually far more pleased with the Laphroaig the same year because it was a rarer treat to get the peaty stuff.
I once received a bottle of Licor 43 from a neighbor who had bought several bottles and decided he didn't like it. It's reminiscent of other orange liqueurs but has a rather sprightly taste of its own. It's great with a bit of lemon or orange and with Angostura Orange Bitters as well as in several cocktails and long drinks, vodka or gin and tonic being the best example..
If he hadn't given me this I would very possibly have never discovered it. Regardless of lack of sentiment he gave me a much-remembered gift. I can't get it in stores in Wyoming but it's commonly available in Montana, a state I visit several times every year.
