I have a group of friends. We like to go out on the weekends. We like getting tipsy but not rip roaring drunk. We're not obnoxious, not too demanding and we try to tip well. We mostly stick to the Montrose area but occasionally we hit up a downtown place. Some are just bars, a few clubs, etc.
The problem is that most bartenders tend to be... rude. We heard about one place that was supposed to be a great spot and have been several times but John the bartender has treated us like lepers, ignoring us and other people and generally acting hostile. We liked a similar but same issue... I have asked for a drink and have gotten back "attitude", like, "NO. We DON'T have the stuff to make that. STOP", when I've just asked politely once. That or they just act snotty and are generally rude. This attitude is pretty prevalent in a lot of bars we've been to.
Originally this post was filled with the names of bars but apparently name dropping isn't allowed... Boo.
Anyway, any bar recommendations? Are all Houston bartenders awful? We're just looking for a new bar. We've been to dozens but so many bartenders are awful and anti-social, which is weird.
Although it may be possible, OP has given really nothing that would indicate that. I've gotten stellar service, but I've also been treated the way he's described. Perhaps instead of fact finding we could give some suggestions; what types of bars do you typically like to frequent OP? For instance I like F Bar, but if I had to guess just going off demographic percentages, I doubt you go to gay bars often.
From what I've noticed, you don't get this in established bars with professional bartenders. I see in at the trendy bars with not professional bartenders but people who bartend for a living (there is a difference just like with waiters).
It seems that at the trendy places, the bartenders cater to the "cool" people, the hot women and friends. I'm sure they'll eventually notice the big tippers, but they don't see the forest for the trees.
What kind of bars do you generally like? I might have a few suggestions for you, but don't know where you've been already. PM me the bars if you're not allowed to mention them in a thread.
Don't given repeat business to places with subpar service. However, if you keep finding this to be an issue everywhere you go, the issue is probably not the bartenders.
