I tried a stone enjoy by ( 2/14/15) , this past super bowl Sunday, I have heard so much about this beer that I thought it would be a smooth, delicious IPA, with all those citrus hints I hear about. Well, this beer to me was so bitter i couldn't hardly drink it, I did because I spent 7 bucks on the bottle, but was for sure not what I expected. Has anyone else experienced beers that were just completely different than what you expected?

? I thought this most recent Enjoy By was a favorite. Definitely a more floral hop, thought the ABU was a little lighter than the December batch.

Founders KBS was an eye opener...not sure I enjoyed it, coming from someone who likes bourbon

Sounds like this fine craft liquid from the good people at Stone Brewing was a little more sophisticated than the OP's palate could handle!....

I haven't had many brews of the type I like (IPA's) that I considered "different" than what I expected. But I've had many that were underwhelming for sure! Stone's Enjoy By series have never fallen into this category.

Agreed. Not a fan of the style. Those I've had taste more like a boilermaker than a craft beer. Certainly not food friendly. Honestly would just rather have a beer and a bourbon, separate glasses.

The entire Rogue line....where do they get off charging so much for a middle-of-the-line craft beer?

Do you like double IPAs in general? The extreme bitterness is a hallmark of that style. I would not have bought that beer expecting it to be "smooth".

I have to agree. Their marketing is out of date, too. It really reminds me of the 'extreme beer' beer snobbism of the late 90s-early 2000s.

You don't need to sell me on how harcore I am because I am buying your 120 IBU, 9% beer.

How much do their bombers go for these days, anyway?

Enjoy By is a great DIPA. One of the best, aside from Heady Topper, Pliny The Elder and maybe Victory Dirtwolf.

OP you may have been looking for a Session IPA, or single IPA, in which case I would reccomend Founder's All Day IPA, Stone Goto IPA, Bell's Two Hearted Ale, and Ballast Point Sculptin. Bear Republic Racer 5 is also a good one, but has a slightly higher %abv, so it's not as sessionable as the others.

Agreed about Rogue. Their beer is so damn average and lacking in the flavor dept. Yet they still seem to consider themselves a top tier brewery and price their offerings accordingly. No thanks.

I was about to type up a post defending Rogue, and then I realized I had never actually bought it (just had it at friends' houses) and didn't know how much it cost.

So I looked up how much it was, and wow, you guys are right. Yellow Snow, which I think is a pretty good, not quite top-tier, IPA, is a whole $4 more per 6-pack than Two-Hearted, which is top-tier IPA IMO. Definitely not worth it.

It sounds like you just didn't like it....that doesn't make it over rated. It's not one of my favorites either...though no idea what you though an IPA wouldn't be bitter....lol....but that still only makes it not one of my favorites...nothing more nothing less.
