Looking for advice on what Gin to get my Uncle for his 80th birthday. He's a vibrant and wealthy world traveler, and an easy going guy. Gin & tonic with a slice of lime is his drink.

I honestly don't know much about liquor, but thought he might like a unique gin. Last time he was visiting he picked up Bombay Sapphire, so I assume he likes it, but maybe that was the only decent one at our local store.

Any of you Gin lovers have any advice?

Thanks for your recs, although I was hoping for something a little more obscure/unique....something he wouldn't be able to just walk to the store and buy.

Gin is the one liquor I know nothing about.....I do recall a British article not to long ago about the top 10 gins in the world...you might want to Google that....no Bombay or Tanquerey on that list...but most weren't completely outrageous in price as some scotches are.

Binny's should have a decent selection of craft gins. Check them out.

Just buy a high quality gin.
A gin drinker would not be unhappy with a bottle of Beef Eater or Gordons .
But If you want something special one of these wont disappoint=

Death's Door Gin if you're on a budget (Wisconsin) - its my go to http://www.deathsdoorspirits.com/spirits

Rehorst Gin out of Milwaukee is also very good, but harder to find that DD http://www.greatlakesdistillery.com/...s/rehorst-gin/

If you can do a little better (price wise), get one of the Barr Hill gins spirits - Caledonia SpiritsCaledonia Spirits . (Vermont)

I love Bombay gin.. it has a distinctive taste, and the bottles also look pretty cool as well!

What do you think of Monkey 47? I remember that my uncle lived in Germany for a time many years ago. Is that unique/obscure, and a good choice?

Thanks Vlajos - that is a great idea.

I would otherwise consider Death's Door, as my uncle has a sense of humor.... but my aunt doesn't!

Koval and Leatherbee are Chicago small batch distillers. Binny's carries them both. I don't drink much gin, so I can't provide much insight beyond this.
