I assumed Toyman meant the Obsidian Stout. Recently bought some and tried it. Not my favorite but better than a lot of them. I have a couple left that will be enjoyed today as my Chiefs whup up on the Saints.
Hey Toyman, if we're all wet and Deschuttes does have a new stout, let us know.
First couple of pints of Innis & Gunn Scottish beer and count me a fan. It's strong, at 6.6% but smooth as silk.
I'll keep my eyes open for some of that. Besides a good porter or stout, I do enjoy a strong Scottish ale.
Bosque brewery here in Albuquerque makes one called Scotia. Like you said, strong but smooth as silk.
I have a new favourite beer... very fragrant. St. Luke's Verse, a gruit ale brewed by Beau's, in Ottawa, Canada.
This one is a gruit. Or a variation on a gruit. It has a blend of herbs that was used to boost the flavour. Oraganic lavender, thyme, and rosemary... it smelled so sweet when I opened it that I was afraid the taste would be too intense, but it was mild and quite refreshing. This would go nice with a light meal... maybe fish or roasted chicken without tons of spices to conflict with the infused herbs of the gruit ale.
I've read online that a traditional gruit wouldn't include hops in the process, this one does according to the label.
Sometimes craft brewers come up with some dodgy beverages, but this was amazing... if you get a chance to sample a gruit, I totally recommend trying one.
It's a bit pricey, but really enjoying the Pineapple and Grapefruit versions of Sculpin IPA (Ballast Point) lately. They go down way, way too easily.
