A few years ago Fever Tree swept the Bay Area and now it is impossible to find a g&t without it. It is so much better than basic tonic water. When I see a tonic drink with fever tree I try it.

I like a shot of spiced rum. In the winter, essentially. Every had a hot rum toddy? That's a nice treat.

The only purpose for clear rum, as far as I can tell, is to add some kick to what would otherwise be a nice cold tropical beverage. So, we have mojito, margarita, caipirinha, and so on... they would sort of be nice cold drinks on their own without the rum, but the rum makes them a cocktail.

Pina colada (rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice). I make mine shaken, not blended.

A good aged dark rum is great on its own or on the rocks. I honestly would not want to ruin a really good aged rum with juice or anything. They are best to drink straight or with a nice cigar if you fancy that. Santa Teresa from Venezuela is a great dark aged rum.
