My friend and I were drinking a wine last night and we checked it out on Vivino (app that lists wine prices and ratings--you take a picture of your wine-bottle label to get the information, and then, of course, Vivino sends you wine marketing emails.)
It was a Malbec. Vivino told us it was a great wine to buy and lay away for four years or so...my friend is almost 79, and she laughed her ass off. She wants wines that are good to drink NOW.
I leave my ratings. "This wine is good". "Good to drink with anything." "Didn't have that biting sensation afterward."
I'll let the others talk about notes of cherry and chocolate and noses and legs and finishes and whatnot.

...I have always disliked wine snobbery, probably because I am not wine savvy and properly educated in all it's subtleties (which I think it's mainly B.S). So what I'm about to say (on several levels) will be viewed as total blasphemy. If people knew where I lived, the pitchforks and tiki torches would come out in force.
I like a glass or two of white wine each evening. As mentioned before, I don't discriminate and buy inexpensive dry white wine.
Well, the other day I went out with some friends and got a bottle of Corona beer with the traditional lime wedge. I love lime and think it is one of the freshest, purest flavors in the world.
Anyhow, the next night I poured a glass of white wine and on a whim squeezed a wedge of lime into it. And I LOVED it! it gave the wine a nudge up and a fresh new flavor. I'm hooked!
So say what you will, I just wanted to "confess" something which to wine lovers will be seen as a mortal sin. So be it! I'm happy with it.
whatever floats your boat? No one should put someone down for their tastes. I am not a wine snob but I am not a lover of really cheap wine either. That being said there is a Malbec sold at Alis that is cheap and we love it. I don't know if I would be able to tell the difference between it and a $25 bottle.I always shake my head when on Wednesdays the food section wine expert tells us the good pairing and list budget mid road and super quality wines: to her the bargain or budget wines start at about $15 a bottle, sometimes a little less; mid road is $20 to $25 and you can go from there. To us budget is under $10.

Agreed. My niece was on a business trip to NYC. She went to dinner with some professionals she met there. She doesn't care for white wine so ordered red with her fish (or chicken) dinner and was subtly and not so subtly judged by the NY wine snobs she was with. She's a sensitive soul and it kind of ruined her trip. Ironically, she hardly ever drinks as she comes from two alcoholic parents and lost her mother to it.

Congratulations. You've just (sort of) made sangria.
My SIL's husband actually IS a wine pro, and I have always appreciated his approach...what's the best wine? The one you enjoy the most. I've enjoyed extremely costly wines with him, and ones that were absolutely affordable and no less wonderful.
