I like the Barefoot wines. They're very inexpensive, and they come in all kinds.

As far as reds you'll find some nice, fruity Beaujolis in your price range.

riunite is pretty light and nice wines. it's low in alcohol content and a very good casual wine. i like their soft red and white wines. both go with any type of food. it's perfect on the budget.

I second this. From Pinot Grigio to Cabernet Sauvignon, Barefoot is good and inexpensive!

Totally agree.... and where I live you can buy them for WELL under $15...sometimes 2 for that!!! and believe me your friends will like them as well... crowd pleaser wines. I have wine snob friends who are shocked how much they are enjoying it when I tell them.... Put it in a pretty caraf if you don't want others to know what it is....

If you like cheap and good supposedly Trader Joe's own brand of wine is pretty good.
I was spoiled living in South Australia, where the majority of Aussie wine for export is grown, to have superb wines for that price range. There are too many to mention but generally if you find a shiraz from the Barossa Valley or McClaren Vale, a reisling or rose from Clare Valley or a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonaware - you'll be doing all right. Avoid anything by Angove's. We avoid yellow tail.

I really like the Ruffino Pinot Grigio I got at Costco for around $9.

A cut way above the $6.99 type wines which I think Barefoot falls under. Black Opal is another presentable $6.99 type.

We like Kendall-Jackson. I try to find Pinot Grigio if we want white, & we like any kind of red.

Where I live it's about $6/$7 for the smaller bottle, and about $12/$13 for a bigger bottle. I tend to be a wine connoisseur too!
